One account dates back to 2737 B.C., where Chinese Emperor Shen Nung happened upon tea when leaves from a bush dropped into his boiling water. Japan has its own legend, where it is said the founder of Japanese Buddhism, Indian Saint Bodhidharma, discovered tea on a trip to China in 520 A.D.
